Some interesting points to remember when looking for the Melbourne Cup winner. Forget about form (Railings)always look at the top trainers and jockeys (especially locals) and always throw in the entires (stallions) into your multis (there are 7 this year). One of these are more than likely to lob into a place at outside odds. A stallion will, in all probability, outlast most mares and geldings over the 2 mile distance. I have always worked on this theory and picked up some huge tris along the way. Good luck one and all.

ok I have done a bit of research using the century system.
In 1906 a horse called POSEIDON won the melbourne cup after the caufield. Yes a double winner, there could be a link there, however PO-SE-DE-IA, is also found, indicating the existence of a now-forgotten consort goddess. Tablets from Pylos record sacrificial goods destined for "the Two Queens and Poseidon" and to "the Two Queens and the King". The most obvious identification for the "Two Queens" .....SOUND LIKE TAWQEET.... is with Demeter and Persephone, or their precursors, goddesses who were not associated with Poseidon in later periods. Poseidon is already identified as "Earth-Shaker"
hmmm is the name POP ROCK (earthquake)Ringing a bell anyone?
Demeter and Poseidon's names are linked in one Pylos tablet, where they appear as PO-SE-DA-WO-NE and DA-referred to by the epithets Enosichthon, Seischthon and Ennosigaios, all meaning "earth-shaker" and referring to his role in causing earthquakes.
So My predictions are for either TAWQUEET or
POP ROCK (link:as in popping rock or earthquake)
Good Luck Punting!
