The New Zealand contingent at this year's Melbourne Cup will be led by Nom de Jour and Red Ruler
There will once again be strong Northern Hemisphere representation at the Melbourne Cup on November 4.
Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien's champion stayer Yeats has been handed the top weight of 59kg for the November 4 race, while stablemate Septimus will carry 58.5kgs. However, Septimus is still the best pick as far as the bookies are concerned, currently sitting at between $10 and $15 on most boards.
Yeats and Septimus are likely to meet in this week's Irish St Leger - a win could see a re-handicapping and odds being slashed. (...and they did and Septimus won by 13 lengths)
The New Zealand contingent for Australia's biggest race will be led by Nom de Jour and Red Ruler who completed the quinella at this year's AJC Derby. They are also set to meet in the Kelt Capital Stakes on October 1.
